 Trek Raft Combo - Chopta/Chandrashila Trek & Ganga ExpeditionHome / Trips / Trek Raft Combo - Chopta/Ganga Experience the grandeur of the Himalayas by trekking on the beautiful Chopta/Chandrashila route and rafting on the Ganges. The difficulty level would be largely rated as moderate.
The trek would start from Okhimath, and pass through Deoria tal, Chopta and Tungnath to reach the summit of Chandrashila for an amazing view of the Himalayas. Maximum altitude reached would be around 3950 at the summit of Chandrashila.
We would trek through a protected sanctuary for musk deer, rich in flora and fauna. Camping would be done at Deoriya tal lake with majestic view of Chaukhamba peaks, and further in the meadows of Chopta. Each camp site would offer excellent views to the Himalayan peaks.
The Chandrashila summit would be our highest point in the trek, giving a vantage point to experience Himalayas in a wide spectrum. One would see the entire range in almost a 270 degrees of visibility, with peaks like Chaukhamba, Kedarnath, Nanda devi and Trishul among the most prominent ones.
On our way back from the trek, we would raft down from Kaudiyala to the temple city of Rishikesh, negotiating exciting class III and class IV rapids on the Ganga. The river trip would be done in an expedition style giving experience of exclusive camping on isolated beach besides the river.

Day 0: Board overnight train from Delhi to Haridwar.
Day 1: Transfer by road from Haridwar/Rishikesh to Okhimath ( 7 hours ). Overnight guest house at Okhimath.
Day 2: Short drive to Sari village, from where the trek for today is up to Deoria Tal ( 2387 Mtrs ). The trek would be largely uphill, through village and forest. Deoria tal is a beautiful lake amidst thick forest. The reflection of Chaukhamba peaks in the lake is notable for photography enthusiasts. Overnight Camp.
Day 3: Trek from Deoria tal to Banagher. The 4-5 hours walk would be through thick forest, and would delight nature lovers. Overnight Camp.
Day 4 : Trek from Banagher to the higher meadows of Chopta. The trek would take us across Tikar khal to reach the vast meadows of Chopta. Overnight Camp.
Day 5: Trek from Chopta to Tungnath ( 3680 Mtrs ) and further to Chandrashila summit ( 3950 Mtrs ). Tungnath is famous for the highest Shiva Temple in the world. Enjoy 270 degrees of unobstructed view of snow clad Himalayas from the vantage point of Chandrashila. One can sight golden breasted eagles in this area. Return to Chopta camp for overnight.
Day 6: Drive from Chopta to Kaudiyala ( 7 hours ), overnight tents/guest house at Kaudiyala.
Day 7: Post breakfast, all luggage of participants is packed in waterproof dry bags, and the river trip starts after a detailed safety briefing at the put-in. Today we would run the rapid biggie - "Wall" which usually ranges between class III+ to class IV difficulty level. After this rapid the trip is moderate, interspread with lot of smaller class I/II rapids which are suitable for swimming and body surfing. Camp is set up after the exciting class III rapid called "Three Blind Mice".
Day 8: After breakfast, the camp is winded up, and everything is packed in dry bags. The rafts are once again put into the water to continue our river journey. Today we would run several exciting class III kind of rapids like "Roller Coaster" and "Golf Course". We would finish our trip near the temple town of Rishikesh. Further transfer to Haridwar for onwards journey.

PRICE INCLUDES Surface transfers ex Haridwar/Rishikesh, all camping gear, kitchen and mess arrangements, manpower for cooking, portaging of luggage and equipment, rations, fuel, all expedition class rafting gear including rafts, life jackets, helmets, paddling jackets, safety kayaks, dry bags, experienced river guides and kayak professionals with international certifications for white water rescue and first aid/cpr, river running permits and all en-route stay as described in the schedule.
PRICE EXCLUDES Train fares, railway station transfers, insurance of any kind, expenses of personal nature, alcoholic drinks, refreshments/meals during the road journey and at any hotel/guest house, anything not mentioned in the above schedule/program.
BOOKINGS, CANCELLATIONS & REFUNDS: - Tour needs to be booked at least 45 days in advance. Full payment is required to confirm a booking.

PACKING LIST
Personal torch, small daypack/backpack to hold the day walk necessities, all clothing/luggage in rucksack/soft bags suitable to be carried on ponies, warm clothing, inner fleece body warmer lining, comfortable shoes suitable for hikes/treks, windproof jacket, warm headgear/balaclava, gloves, trekking pole, cameras, personal medication ( first aid would be provided ), sun protection and moisturizing cream etc.
For rafting: Quick drying clothes/swimming costume, waterproof floater kind of sandals with a securable back strap, retainer strap for shades or prescription glasses.
GENERAL NOTIFICATION
- Trekking programs in the Himalayas not necessarily would always run exactly as scheduled. Allow for unplanned long days or early camps due to weather disruptions or similar causes.
- Any additional expenses which might occur due to delays, weather disruptions, medical evacuation etc. would need to be borne by the participants. All participants are recommended to have a travel insurance that covers trekking and wilderness travel.
- Participants would be required to sign an indemnity/disclaimer prior to trip start.
- Minimum age for participation in the rafting expedition is 15 years.
- No room service or any kind of special considerations/customizations is possible/provided.
- Participants not comfortable in water may be asked to walk certain rapids.
- People with past history/ailment of heart, asthma, epilepsy are not recommended to register for this tour.
- Toilets are tented, dry pit arrangements with western kind of w/c.
JOURNEY
The tour starts from Haridwar, and ends at Haridwar.
