 Whitewater Kayaking : IntroductionHome / Trips / Whitewater Kayaking : Introduction A whitewater kayaking trip designed to facilitate novice kayak enthusiasts wishing to take a quick plunge into the exciting world of whitewater kayaking. The schedule is short and crisp, and focuses on developing skills to run a kayak in whitewater, and a lot of fun.
Experience the magic of white water adventures from a kayak. This program would enable you to take an introduction into whitewater kayaking and would give you the basic kayaking skills and challenging river trips on Ganges. Each day would emphasize on river practice time, and paddling sessions would be long and intense.
The plan would include theory sessions on whitewater kayaking and lot of river running exposure in whitewater sections. Day end de-brief sessions would further enhance our kayak skills and would ensure informal group discussions to further enhance technical and non-technical knowledge of whitewater kayaking as a sport. Day 0: Board overnight train from Delhi to Haridwar.
Day 1: Arrive early morning at Haridwar. Transfer to our Kayak school at Shivpuri on Ganges. Breakfast and a brief introduction to the kayaking equipment, before we hit the water. Our kayak session would start with basic paddling strokes, turning strokes to get the basic control and balance of the boat. Long boating session with working lunch. Towards the end of the river time we give the experience of wet exit, and Eskimo rescue to the participants.
Day 2: Early morning wakeup, warm up and stretching exercises. After breakfast we proceed for an initiation river run (class I difficulty). Today’s objective is to build confidence in the paddlers as well as to give them the taste of river running. Key attention is given to river ferry skills and general improvement on paddling strokes. Wrap up after lunch.
Day 3: Today participants would experience river running of about 10 kms, spanning over up to class II kind of rapids. The instructors and safety kayakers would guide and help the paddlers negotiate big volume class II rapids on Ganga river in safety. Practice of Eskimo rescue would be given a lot of importance apart from river reading.
After the trip we have a short de-brief, and then the participants depart for Haridwar to board the evening Shatabdi express.

PRICE INCLUDES Simple twin share accommodation in dome tents on the terrace of our kayaking school in Shivpuri is provided to all students who wish to learn to kayak, all meals from breakfast of day 01 till the lunch of day 03, use of kayaking equipment ( kayak, spray deck, wet suit, paddle, helmet, PFD ), instructor, river guides,local transportation, railway station transfers ( as per trains recommended by us. If participants wish to travel by different means/timings, the transfers would need to be paid for as per actual ), all necessary rescue and first aid equipment.
PRICE EXCLUDES Train fares to/fro Haridwar, expenses of personal nature, insurance of any kind, alcoholic drinks, anything not mentioned explicitly in the above program.

PACKING LIST Personal torch, quick drying clothes/swimming costumes for kayaking, waterproof floater kind of sandals with securable back strap, retainer cord for sun glasses/prescription glasses, cameras, sun protection/block cream, moisturizer, towel, toilet kit etc. Warm clothing would be needed from mid October till mid March.
GENERAL NOTIFICATION - Minimum age for participation is 15 years for our kayak training programs. - Accommodation is at our kayak school in dome tents setup on the terrace. - No room service or any kind of special considerations/customizations is possible/provided. - This is not a luxury trip; days would be tiring and intensive. - People with past history/ailment of heart, asthma, epilepsy are not recommended this course. - Weather disruptions may at times result in discomfort or unplanned adjustments.
White Water Kayaking is considered an extreme sport and has potential risks. Participants to our kayaking trips are expected to understand the hazards and would be required to sign an undertaking/disclaimer prior to participating. JOURNEY Our Kayak school is located at Shivpuri, which is about 15 kms from Rishikesh and 40 kms from Haridwar - Participants need to reach Shivpuri not later than 7 AM on day 01. (Alternatively reach Haridwar on day 00, and stay overnight at Haridwar/Rishikesh) - Participants from Delhi are recommended to travel by the following trains: + Delhi to Haridwar: 2205 Dehradun AC Special, 4041 Mussoorie Express + Haridwar to Delhi: 2018 Shatabdi Express, 4042 Mussoorie Express, 2206 Dehradun AC Special
